Job Description

Venture Out Nursery on South Whidbey is seeking a full-time year-round Shift Supervisor who is a self-starter with high energy to join our diverse, professional and fun team. The ideal candidate will have one to three years work experience in agriculture/nursery and/or retail.  Nursery and horticulture experience or knowledge are a plus. We are offering competitive wages based on your experience. This position will report directly to the General Manager.

After our screening process, the interview process will include an in-person interview(s) with our management team.  This will be followed up by a working, hands-on interview to test the physical requirements of the position.

Responsibilities:

• Shift Lead to include oversight of team and plant and customer care
• Open and Close Nursery and till
• Unload deliveries and stock merchandise
• Maintain plant health with correct care
• Assist customers with plant selection and improving nursery sales
• Assist customers with loading plants, trees and soils and amendments as needed
• Assist General Manager in organizing projects and managing daily tasks
• Keep displays organized and tidy
• Fill in on our Plant Install team if needed
• Perform other tasks as requested by the GM

Required Skills/Knowledge:

• Horticultural or agricultural training, education, or work experience
• Love of plants and working in a retail environment
• Plant knowledge and/or nursery experience ideal
• Leadership experience preferred but willing to train the right candidate
• Experience or aptitude operating machinery such as loader, forklift, tractor, skid steer or similar equipment
• Communicate well with employees and managers
• Outgoing personality required to approach customers and assisting them with purchases
• Sales experience a plus
• Able to easily lift 50 lbs+ consistently
• Able to work in inclement weather
• Availability to work 4-5 full days per week including weekends and flexibility to switch days as needed
• Attention to detail
• Self-starter with high energy
